Undesirable Entities
The Council Chamber of Wrocław Town Hall features murals depicting plants – likely segetal plants, commonly known as weeds. In 1418, a dozen or so daredevils, in an act of rebellion against the deteriorating living conditions of guild members and the common people, stormed the Town Hall and attacked members of the City Council. They wanted a change in the city’s policies, access to power, and representation of their own interests. Dissidents – people deemed undesirable by the ruling authorities – are referred to as ‘weeds’.
The work consists of objects referencing the world of flora. They are made from elements and materials whose function is to protect the territory against the intrusion of strangers and undesirables. Weeds are characterised by resilience (the ability to resist), adaptability, opportunism, stubbornness and perseverance.
